Cervical Orthotics

Cervical Orthotics (Neck)

Infinite Technologies has experience treating a full range of spine injuries and abnormalities including fracture management, post-operative support, cervical management, and pain management. Whether your appointment is in the hospital after an accident or surgery, or in one of our office locations after being referred by your doctor, you can rest assured that our orthotists will determine the most appropriate brace for your spinal needs. Based on the patient’s prescription, doctor’s notes and preferences, and diagnosis, we will fit the patient with the highest level of “off the shelf” or custom spinal orthoses deemed necessary. Many of our off the shelf braces are able to be “customized” through a variety of height, width, and circumferential adjustments to allow for increased fit, comfort, and efficacy. We will take the time to explain how your brace benefits you and how to appropriately and safely put it on and take it off. Before you leave, we will make sure your questions are answered, your brace is functional and comfortable, and you have our contact information for any future questions or concerns. Most importantly, we follow you through your rehabilitation and after hospital care or initial appointment to ensure the spinal brace maintains its optimal fit and is adjusted as you progress through your treatment.

Cervical Orthotics / Neck Braces

Orthotic Brace: Cervical Collar (semi-rigid)

Typically these braces come in two parts – a posterior and anterior part, and are attached via two Velcro straps. The brace holds your head in a neutral position while preventing flexion, extension, and rotation. The brace will be adjusted to a tight fit to promote stability and should lie evenly around your neck. A thoracic extension can be added for additional restriction of movement and a hole for a tracheostomy is available.

Conditions: suspected cervical trauma, tear drop fracture, cervical strain, stable hangman’s fractures, post-op procedures (anterior cervical fusion, halo removal, Dens type I fracture of c2, anterior discectomy)

Orthotic Brace: Soft Collar

Soft collar braces are less restrictive than semi-rigid collars, and therefore are typically used in less severe cases, or in cases where flexion, extension, and rotation should be limited but not necessarily prevented. The collar is secured by a Velcro strap and is considered the most comfortable of the cervical orthoses.

Conditions: minor muscle spasm associated with spondylosis and cervical strains, acute pain associated with some degenerative diseases of cervical spine, acute torticollis

Orthotic Brace: Cervical Thoracic Orthosis (CTO)

CTOs stabilize your cervical and thoracic regions and typically have a cervical collar attached to a sternal shield to fully prevent rotation. This brace is more restrictive than the cervical collar and provides more stability over a greater area. The brace has plastic mandibular and occipital support and is completely lined with machine washable interfaces to increase comfort.

Conditions: stable burst fractures, light wedge fractures following traction, Jefferson’s fracture without transverse ligament injury, occipital condyle avulsion fractures

Orthotic Brace: Cervical-Thoracolumbosacral Orthosis (CTLSO)

CTLSOs stabilize your cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral regions and typically have a cervical collar attached to a sternal shield to fully prevent rotation. This brace is more restrictive than the cervical collar and provides more stability over a greater area. The brace has plastic mandibular and occipital support and is completely lined with machine washable interfaces to increase comfort. It also provides stability to the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine to prevent extension, flexion, and rotation. The brace provides support to the trunk and upper thoracic regions and pressure to the abdomen to reduce load on intravertebral disks.

Conditions: spinal fractures, post op healing, stable burst fractures, light wedge fractures following traction, Jefferson’s fracture without transverse ligament injury, occipital condyle avulsion fractures
