Direct Socket Transtibial and Transfemoral is a socket solution for amputees of all activity levels. We are the Premium partner in the area with Ossur to provide this technology.
With the use of the Direct Socket materials and tools, the fabrication process is standardized and quick. The whole process will take 4 hours from beginning to end for the patient to receive their full definitive prosthesis.
The patient will have minimal appointments through this process, and not have to keep coming back to assess the fit of a diagnostic socket. This process eliminates the need for the plastic sockets, which can be bulky and heavy, and move them to their definitive, which is sleek and light. This will speed up the rehab process for the patient by getting them into their prosthesis faster. The normal process with multiple diagnostic sockets needing to be fabricated before getting to a definitive socket can take several months after amputation. Studies have shown that the Direct Socket can help get the patient up in a prosthesis as soon as a month after amputation.
One of the key tools for a well-fitting Direct Socket Transtibial is the Icecast bladder and pump, a single chamber pressure-casting system designed to optimally distribute pressure to shape soft tissue during casting. This soft tissue compression helps form the socket around the patient’s anatomy better, giving them a linkage to their prosthesis they have never felt before.
The key too for a well-fitting Direct Socket Transfemoral (TF) socket is soft tissue compression. By compressing the soft tissue, you lock the femur. This gives the patient more control over the prosthesis so there is no delay in the movement of the femur, a compared to the movement of the prosthesis. The soft flexible brim for TF socket adds improved comfort to boney areas such as the ischial tuberosity (IT). The soft brim can contain the IT or be sub ischial all together. Due to the soft tissue compression, the trim lines for the TF sockets can be lower since boney lock won’t be need like in traditional sockets. The lower trim lines add for improved ROM at the hip flexors, making it easier for patients to go from standing to sitting, and sitting to standing.
These sockets can be used on patients of all activity levels, shapes and sizes.
